OUr story

When Don't Wait to Vaccinate started in December 2020 amidst the announcements that Pfizer and Moderna were releasing their COVID vaccines, individuals across the nation worried about the efficacy of the vaccine. Falsehoods that the vaccine was rushed or harmful ran rampant, and the media added to these concerns by propagating a cloud of fear surrounding both the virus and the vaccines. In addition to widespread vaccine hesitancy, vaccination registrations occurred online, creating both digital and literacy barriers for individuals in underserved communities who wanted to register for a vaccination appointment.

This inequality of accessibility to vaccination information and registration threatened the prospect of ending the pandemic.  So, we created Don't Wait to Vaccinate to empower our community to get the vaccine - both by spreading easily-accessible information about the vaccine and by hosting live vaccination registration events in underserved areas to help promote equity in vaccination accessibility.

Our extremely dedicated team enabled our efforts to ripple throughout the community. With our frequent live events, Don't Wait to Vaccinate directly registered thousands of individuals for the vaccine in highly vulnerable neighborhoods in Dallas. And, our influence extended even further. By demonstrating how to sign up for the vaccine, we enabled individuals to help register their friends and family as well. Furthermore, our efforts as an independent organization on social media helped us aggregate relevant information about the virus and propagate the message that the vaccine was safe.

As the more contagious Delta Variant spreads, our nation risks another spike in COVID cases and faces a need to re-enter strict measures against the virus to prevent high hospitalization rates. In other words, vaccinating Americans has never been more important. With a particular focus on presenting the Delta Variant as an impetus for getting vaccinated for younger and hesitant audiences, our work continues.
